Summer is nearly over and can only mean one thing, students are back!!!

Week commencing 9th September fresher’s and returning students will descend on Heriot-Watt University.

The facility will be noticeably busier the month of September but we are confident this will have little impact on other users.

Sports Union are hosting a festival of sport and exercise, this will give students the opportunity to get involved in sport and exercise.

There are sessions run by all of our sports clubs and recreational sports, and a range of Oriam fitness classes on offer. No previous experience is required so get along to as many as you can and try something new!

Scottish Rugby Conference

Last month we welcomed Scottish Rugby as they hosted their 2019-2020 East Rugby Development Conference.

The conference was aimed to bring the region together at one central venue to kick off the 2019-20 season, with committee members, coaches, and referees all invited to attend free of charge.

The conference included updates and workshops on key strategic area of our game, including workshops and presentations.

Conference themes included:

-Player welfare and child protection

-Club development best practice

-Technical blueprint ‘The Scottish Way’

-2019-2020 Key events and dates

There was an exceptional turnout on the day and it was fantastic to see so many supporting Scottish Rugby.

Charity Football

Sunday 15th September we will host a charity football match, HSBC will take on a team made up of Scottish legends.

The match will support Make 2nds Count and Health In Mind charities. Make 2nds Count is a charity dedicated to helping women and men living with secondary breast cancer count. Health In Mind is a Scottish based charity aimed at tackling mental health issues.

The match kicks off at 1pm, tickets cost £5 per adult and £2 per child. It would be great to see as many people as possible and make the event a success.

Doors Open Day 2019

This September Oriam will participate in Doors Open 2019 30th anniversary.

Doors Open Day gives you free access to hundreds of fascinating buildings across Scotland.

Oriam will open its doors to the public and give them an opportunity to sample Scotland’s sports performance centre. On the day there will be inflatables, badminton, table tennis and exercise classes.

On the 25th September we will be celebrating national fitness day. This is a chance for us to highlight the role physical activity plays across our lives, raising awareness of its importance in helping us lead healthier and active lifestyles.

We will run an open day so guests can sample group exercise classes and the newly refurbished fitness suite.

Our fitness instructor Danny Raynor will host the outdoor sessions, this will incorporate the trim track and the outdoor synthetic. Boot camp sessions will run 1pm-2pm and 4pm-5pm.

Classes and activities will run on a first come first serve basis to give protection to the current member groups and all guests must complete a health declaration prior to attending their meeting point.
