We have a calendar packed with activities and events this winter. Find out more about what we have planned for you in December! Not all events are open to the public, but we will share regular updates on them when we can.

Here’s the Headlines

ELVIS IS LEAVING THE BUILDING

NEW CAFE COMING TO ORIAM JANUARY 2023

Our trusty Tuk-tuk, “Elvis” will be moving out of the reception area this week. This is because we are ready to start an exciting new project for our customer catering options!  We are installing a permanent catering counter in the entrance area. Once completed, this project will enhance the catering options for our customers with an expanded menu, improved seating options and flow of traffic for the entrance area.

Throughout December, our catering options will be temporarily reduced. This will allow time for construction, equipment testing and new training for our catering team. We appreciate your patience whilst we work on this project, and we can’t wait to serve up a fresh brew from our new counter in January!

We have made the decision not to reopen catering service for customers in the bistro area upstairs. Instead we’re focussing on a comfortable seating area for customers to enjoy, alongside group catering options for our performance teams, events or conferences. This space will also be temporarily closed whilst some changes are made.

If you have any questions or feedback on our catering options, please email hello@oriam.hw.ac.uk

SQUEEZE IN SOME SQUASH

It has been a busy start to the season for Squash, we have news from our Squash coach, Heriot-Watt Squash club, Scottish Squash and our Squash Scholars!

First of all, congratulations to Heriot-Watt Men’s Squash team who have had a successful run of matches both away and at home. You can get a full match report from Donna Lobban, Head Squash Coach over on the Sports Union news page.

Alongside coaching the HWU club and scholars, Donna has also been selected as a H//T Squash Activator as part of a Scottish Squash initiative, encouraging women and girls to get involved in the sport. We’ll have more details on what the program will look like soon!

We also want to wish Lisa Aitken, (Squash Scholar) and Donna (Head Coach) both the best of luck as they head off to Egypt to compete in the World Women’s Squash team championship from the 10th of December. They will be competing in rival teams, Lisa for Team Scotland and Donna for Team Australia, but we will be cheering both of them on as part of our Heriot-Watt community. You can watch their matches live online here.
