Careers fairs and insight events are popular ways for employers to engage with our students. We run a number of sector-specific careers fairs and insight events throughout the academic year, which is a great way to raise your profile on campus.
The aim of these events is to make penultimate and final year students aware of the work experience, internships and permanent positions available within your company. We also encourage earlier years to attend the fairs as a useful way to develop their understanding of industry.
We are delighted to be collaborating with Heriot Watt University as part of Wellbeing Week. We will take part in a range of activities over the course of the week focusing on the five themes of ways to wellbeing. Team Talk Tournament
Team Talk Tournaments was set up last year to help raise awareness and funds for Scotland’s mental health charity SAMH and men’s mental health in particular. We hosted our first 7 a-side football tournament in June 2019 at Oriam. This was a huge success both in terms of how the tournament was conducted and played with some excellent football along with the £931.70 that we raised.
The tournament involved 160 players made up of 16 teams with 10 players each. Teams were split into 4 groups of 4 battling it out in 20 minute matches to progress through to the knockout stages. The eventual winners were amateur side Mill AFC from Falkirk winning the final in a close game 1-0. We are looking forward to our next tournament on Sunday 9th February at Oriam and welcoming the next 16 teams to compete for this very worthy cause.
We would also like to welcome anyone who wishes to come and watch the tournament which is kicking off at 10:30am. If you would like to support us you can do so by donating via our Just Giving page : https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/team-talk-tournaments
Giving blood saves lives. The blood you give is a lifeline in an emergency and for people who need long-term treatments.

Oriam is excited to announce that we will be taking part in this year’s Let’s Move for a Better World campaign, conceived to educate the next generation on the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. From March 16 to April 4, 2020 people around the world will join forces to promote wellness in their community. By using connected Technogym equipment at Oriam, participants can measure their training efforts and collect their MOVEs on MyWellness Cloud.
The MyWellness Cloud platform is the industry’s first and allows every user participating in the campaign at fitness clubs around the world to collect and donate MOVEs, the special unit of movement created by Technogym.
The Let’s Move for a Better World campaign sums up the ultimate mission of spreading wellness on a global scale. Technogym believes that educating the younger generation is essential to reach this goal and to create a more sustainable society that has well-being as one of its founding values.
Given the success of the campaign since its inception, Technogym has great ambitions for Let’s Move for a Better World in 2020. Last year nearly 1400 Clubs and 200,000 participants in 32 countries took part in the initiative, accumulating more than 766 million MOVEs for a total of 345 million calories, corresponding to 109,000 pounds in weight loss.
Wednesday 12th February will see Oriam playing host to the inaugural Watt Big Wednesday event. We are opening our doors to welcome everyone to get involved as we cheer our teams on to some big ‘Watt Wins’ in some season-defining fixtures across the board. From staff to alumni, flatmates to parents, bring the noise to Oriam and learn what the Sports Union is all about.
HWU Basketball Club have a triple-header! Catch the Men’s 1’s tip off against Glasgow Uni 1’s at 1pm in Sports Hall 1. That will warm us up nicely for the Women’s 1’s to face St Andrews 2’s in the cup. Men’s 2’s take on Abertay in the Cup in SH2.
It’s not often we get to experience all three of our teams compete on the same day, so we are very excited to showcase some of the best talent the Basketball Club has to offer. We are expecting some big crowds and support from the wider Heriot-Watt community to cheer us on to three ‘Watt Wins’!Stewart Morgan, HWU Rugby Club
On the Outdoor Synthetic, HWU Football Club will face Napier in a double header. HW Men’s 3’s face Napier 2’s in the Plate at 1pm, followed by Watt Men’s 1’s vs Napier 1’s at 3pm, in their clash at the summit of Division 2.
‘Watt more could we possibly fit in? Well, the Indoor Synthetic will play host to HWU Rugby Club, with last year’s ‘Team of the Year’, the “Super 2’s” playing in the cup. HW Men’s 1’s are looking to remain the only unbeaten team in their division, the chase for the Division 1 title is on!
Being able to play in front of a big crowd on the biggest indoor pitch in Europe has helped the club grow and perform on and off the field. Having the opportunity to play a double header at Watt Big Wednesday gives us a great exposure to celebrate our club’s success.Elliot Grant-Conlin, HWU Rugby President
In addition to Basketball, SH1 will also place host to Netball’s open door training session before supporting their 2’s take on Aberdeen who will be travelling down the A90 for a 3.30pm start.
We’re super excited to play during Watt Big Wednesday this year. Our matches are usually on a Saturday so we have the opportunity to showcase our sport and support our 2’s to victory! The match is straight after netball training so there will be a crowd of us there to show the rest of the SU how good a netball match can be.Erin Whyte, HWU Netball President
Head upstairs to the Bistro for half-time refreshments and be sure to catch one of our ambassadors (easy to spot in their bright yellow tops!) at any point in the day if you have any questions about the Sports Union, or learn more about the facilities at Oriam we are lucky enough to be hosted in.
