Our Oriam:
November Update

Design is Everything

Hello Again!
October was certainly busy for us at Oriam and we are optimisitcally looking forward to the rest of the year. Read on for an update on what’s been happening and upcoming news for November.

|NEWS

In October, our team were busy across all our facilities and services, adapting to the ever-changing circumstances with a positive and solutions driven attitude. We successfully hosted a range of activities both on-site and virtually for our partner groups and community members. From Performance camps for SFA & SRU Senior Squads to online and on-site events for Wellbeing Week and Heriot-Watt university Consolidation Week. It has been great to welcome both new and returning groups to safely take part in sport and fitness at our Oriam.

We look forward to more activities happening in November and we will always make sure your visit is safe, clean, friendly & fun. To keep up to date with the latest facility information you can follow our social media channels @oriamscotland or check out our FAQ page under the ‘About Us’ tab.

|Oriam Open Hours

As the regulations continue to change, we will be reviewing our facility opening times to ensure we can deliver the best possible service to our users and members, but also ensure we can continue to operate sustainably as a business. Our senior management team meet weekly and will continue to review the operational hours based on business needs and customer experience.

The current operational hours are as follows:

Gym – Mon-Fri 0630-2100,

Sat & Sun 0800-1800

Bistro – Mon-Fri 0830-1530,

Sat & Sun 0830-1400*

*Due to a private booking, our Bistro will be closed to visitors from Saturday 7th at 2:30pm until Thursday 12th November at 8:30am. There will still be a small selection of snacks and drinks available from Reception or via our vending machines. There are other options for food and drink on campus located at the Student Union and the central Hugh Nisbett Building.*

The wider facility will remain available for performance groups and other users based on their requirements. Bookings must be confirmed by our bookings team via bookings@oriam.hw.ac.uk

|Group Sport Activities

With the current level 3 restrictions in place for the Lothian area we have adapted our activities available for groups. For members, our group classes have moved online to enjoy from home. For our groups, hall activities have been suspended however our Synthetic Pitches are available for limited youth team training. For more information on pitch bookings contact: bookings@oriam.hw.ac.uk

|No Show Reminder

Following a review into the fitness suite capacities we have deemed it safe to increase the capacity of the gym to 40 people per session. This increase has been carefully considered with the safety of the members and staff in mind. I’m sure you will agree increasing the opportunity for members to access the gym is a positive step.

We have unfortunately been experiencing a large volume of sessions that are booked to capacity but that do not see the full number of bookees attend the session. This is frustrating both for our staff and for other members who would have been able to utilise the session had people cancelled their booking. In response to this we will be introducing a system from Monday 9th November whereby if you book a gym session and do not attend you will receive an email notification to remind you to cancel your session in future. We will continue to monitor this and should members continue to book and not show up for their gym session further action, in the form of a no show charge, may be considered.

|ORIAM KIDS

Our new Oriam Kids classes started this week. We are glad to welcome back our Athletics and Multi-sports classes led by our very own Lorraine and a range of football and dance classes hosted by our partner groups Hearts Soccer Academy, BW Dance and Dansation. |STUDENT SPORT SUCCESS

Congratulations to Heriot Watt Sport Scholars Josie Steele and Alex Short who have been selected for the Judo European Senior Championships, due to take place in Prague, Czech Republic later this month! British Judo have now decided to withdraw from the competition due to the ongoing pandemic, however this still marks a first senior selection for a major championship for both athletes!
