Member Update – December
|NEWS
November was another busy month at Oriam. Despite the tier 3 restrictions we continued to develop our activities for our members. We re-started our Kids Classes, beat our previous record moves in TechnoGym ‘Lets Move Week’ and welcomed back the SRU and SFA teams for performance training camps. We also celebrated along with the rest of the nation, when the Scotland Men’s Football team qualified for the UEFA Euro 2020s!
We now look forward to a safe, friendly and fun festive season at Oriam. We said farewell to most of our students this week as they head home for Christmas and our professional camps are drawing to an end for this year. We look forward to welcoming them all back in 2021.
To keep up to date with the latest facility information you can follow our social media channels @oriamscotland or check out our FAQ page under the ‘About Us’ tab.
|Oriam Festive Hours
As the festive season approaches we will be adapting our opening hours and we will be closed for a few days at Christmas and New Year so our teams can relax, reset and get ready for 2021!
Until the 23rd December we will maintain our current opening hours and we will return to full operational hours on 5th January. Full breakdown of festive opening hours below
|Group Sport Activities
With the current level 3 restrictions in place for the Lothian area we have adapted our activities available for groups. For members, our group classes have moved online to enjoy from home. For our groups, hall activities have been suspended however our synthetic pitches are available for limited team training. For more information on pitch bookings contact: bookings@oriam.hw.ac.uk

| FITNESS SUITE
NEW EXTENDED FITNESS SESSIONS!
You told us that one hour isn’t long enough so we are extending most of our gym sessions to 80 minutes! From 14th December we will be updating our gym schedule (see below). We will maintain two, 1 hour sessions each day to allow for full deep cleaning and our fitness team will continue a thorough cleaning routine throughout the rest of the day.
Please remember to book ahead and also let us know if you can’t make it. Spaces are limited so cancelling your booking may open a space for another member. We are tracking and notifying no-show bookings and we may introduce no-show fees for repeat offenders.

|TECHNOGYM ON DEMAND
This month we are also trialling a new streaming service provided by our fitness partners, Technogym. A few of our staff are trialling the new service just now and we would like to invite any interested members to join the trial. If you would be interested in trialling a new range of online classes and workouts contact our Fitness Manager Mandy for more details: m.stott@hw.ac.uk

|ORIAM KIDS

November saw the return of Oriam Kids sports programme, along with a new name and branding. It was a great success with all of our classes being full. We are now on our second set of classes, with most at full capacity. All of our classes are currently being run by our very own Lorraine, delivering Mini Multi-Sports to 2-5year olds and Athletics to 5-11 year olds. In the new year we hope to be adding to our timetable and variety of classes. Please keep an eye on the community sports page for more updates.
|JOG SCOTLAND
Have you heard about our new Jog Scotland sessions yet?
In Partnership with Harmeny Athletics Club we are going to be running the Jog Scotland – Couch to 5k Programme in January. The group will meet at 1pm on Wednesdays outside Oriam and will run for 9 weeks. We will start on the 13th Jan.
This will be suitable for all and you will be supported the whole way by some awesome jog leaders. This activity is free of charge. If you would like to take part, log onto the Oriam app and select ‘Jog Scotland session’ under ‘Group Exercise’. Spaces will be limited to allow for social distancing so please get signed up asap.

Here’s a video from the Sports Union President Amber with the highlights from the first semester. Plenty more to come for semester two!
|SPORTS UNION
Semester One Round-up
In September we welcomed our Heriot -Watt Students to a new academic year on campus. It has been a very different experience for all of our students, with limited campus activity and remote learning. This has not deterred the Sports Union team. They have continued on, working hard and getting creative to deliver a wide variety of student sport activities. We look forward to seeing the student sports clubs back in the new year!
