Wednesday 12th February will see Oriam playing host to the inaugural Watt Big Wednesday event. We are opening our doors to welcome everyone to get involved as we cheer our teams on to some big ‘Watt Wins’ in some season-defining fixtures across the board. From staff to alumni, flatmates to parents, bring the noise to Oriam and learn what the Sports Union is all about.

HWU Basketball Club have a triple-header! Catch the Men’s 1’s tip off against Glasgow Uni 1’s at 1pm in Sports Hall 1. That will warm us up nicely for the Women’s 1’s to face St Andrews 2’s in the cup. Men’s 2’s take on Abertay in the Cup in SH2.

It’s not often we get to experience all three of our teams compete on the same day, so we are very excited to showcase some of the best talent the Basketball Club has to offer. We are expecting some big crowds and support from the wider Heriot-Watt community to cheer us on to three ‘Watt Wins’!

Stewart Morgan, HWU Rugby Club

On the Outdoor Synthetic, HWU Football Club will face Napier in a double header. HW Men’s 3’s face Napier 2’s in the Plate at 1pm, followed by Watt Men’s 1’s vs Napier 1’s at 3pm, in their clash at the summit of Division 2.

‘Watt more could we possibly fit in? Well, the Indoor Synthetic will play host to HWU Rugby Club, with last year’s ‘Team of the Year’, the “Super 2’s” playing in the cup. HW Men’s 1’s are looking to remain the only unbeaten team in their division, the chase for the Division 1 title is on!

Being able to play in front of a big crowd on the biggest indoor pitch in Europe has helped the club grow and perform on and off the field. Having the opportunity to play a double header at Watt Big Wednesday gives us a great exposure to celebrate our club’s success.

Elliot Grant-Conlin, HWU Rugby President

In addition to Basketball, SH1 will also place host to Netball’s open door training session before supporting their 2’s take on Aberdeen who will be travelling down the A90 for a 3.30pm start.

We’re super excited to play during Watt Big Wednesday this year. Our matches are usually on a Saturday so we have the opportunity to showcase our sport and support our 2’s to victory! The match is straight after netball training so there will be a crowd of us there to show the rest of the SU how good a netball match can be.

Erin Whyte, HWU Netball President

Head upstairs to the Bistro for half-time refreshments and be sure to catch one of our ambassadors (easy to spot in their bright yellow tops!) at any point in the day if you have any questions about the Sports Union, or learn more about the facilities at Oriam we are lucky enough to be hosted in.
