George Cutler is an emerging talent in Scottish cricket, having recently represented Scotland U19 at the 2026 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe, where he demonstrated maturity, discipline, and growing influence on the international stage. As a right‑arm medium bowler and left‑handed batter, George played a valuable role throughout Scotland’s campaign, contributing both with the ball and in key moments at the crease.

During the tournament, George delivered a composed spell against India U19, taking 1/26 and showing strong control under pressure in Bulawayo. He followed this with a steady all‑round performance in Harare, including an unbeaten 8* against USA U19, providing lower‑order stability when Scotland needed it. These appearances highlight not only his developing skill set but also his readiness to compete against world‑class youth opposition.

George’s selection for the Zimbabwe World Cup squad reflects the progress he has made through Scotland’s youth pathway and his consistent performances domestically, where he has become known for his accuracy with the ball and his potential as a dependable contributor in tight situations. His ability to absorb feedback and apply it quickly has made him a valuable member of the U19 setup, and his growth throughout the 2026 season is a promising indicator of what lies ahead.

As he continues to build on the experience gained on the world stage, George remains a driven and ambitious young cricketer with the temperament to push further in the national pathway. His performances in Zimbabwe mark an important step in his development and underline his potential to progress into higher levels of representative cricket in the years to come.

George Cutler - Sports Scholar

We caught up with George to hear how his season is shaping up—both on the mat and in the classroom. Balancing elite sport with academic study is no small feat, but her determination and focus continue to drive her forward.

1. What are you most proud of this month, and why?

"I am very proud of being able to represent my country and sing the national anthem on the world stage and showcase my skills against some of the best youth players in the world. It was also a very proud moment to bring my mum dad and brother out to Zimbabwe with me as well giving them a once in a lifetime trip."

2.
What’s one challenge you’ve overcome recently and how?

One challenge I have had to overcome recently was being dropped from a few games. In games that I maybe expected to play in I was dropped and needed to gather my thoughts and feelings and just try and influence the game as much as I can even if I'm not on the pitch and learning how to be a useful and valuable team member even if you aren't in the playing 11."

3. What’s one academic or sporting goal you’re working towards this year?

One academic goal I am aiming for this year is to pass all my subjects and move onto my second year of university with good grades, so I am in a good position for my classes next year. One sporting goal I am aiming for this year is to be one of the standout performers in the top men's league for Scottish cricket (Eastern Premier League) for Falkland cricket club. With good performances in club level as well I am also looking to push onto to other senior men's opportunities like Scotland A team games as well.

George's story is a great example of what it means to be a Heriot-Watt Sports Scholar—balancing ambition, resilience, and a commitment to both sport and study. We’re proud to support athletes like George as they chase their goals and inspire others along the way.

Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to spotlight the incredible talent across our scholar community.
