SPORTS & FITNESS
Sports & Fitness all work together in the ‘Delivery team’ at Oriam. There are four key areas within the Delivery Team: Performance Sport, Student Sports Union, Community Sport and Health & Fitness. This team delivers all of our sport and fitness activities throughout Oriam, from kids classes to performance athlete coaching. Roles in this department include Sport and Fitness coaches, instructors, admin roles, sports scientists and physios with supervisors and managers for most areas.
Our Fitness team also work with a number of freelance Exercise and Fitness instructors to support the delivery of our busy class timetable.
Tennis Head-coach/ Development Officer

Oriam successfully bid for a £4.5million six court indoor tennis centre through the Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis (TSIT) fund, bringing together equal funding from Heriot-Watt, LTA and sportscotland to increase participation in tennis. Purpose of Role: This is an exciting role for an experienced coach that is passionate about building a programme at a brand new six-court facility. The Head Coach/ Development Officer role is critical to the coordination of Oriam’s tennis programme while also supporting with the development and growth of the sport locally.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Delivery of Oriam tennis programme sessions, as per programme design (c. 50% of role)
- Coordinate all aspects of Oriam tennis programme including activity timetable, staffing and operation, as per TSIT application & contracts.
- Recruit, manage and develop all paid coaches and volunteers within Oriam tennis programme.
- Develop and ensure delivery of tennis curriculum for all Oriam tennis programme coaching.
- Work with partners, facility users and local community groups to support the growth of tennis in the local community.
- Support the wider business of Oriam, ensuring integration of tennis programme into day-to-day operation.
- Represent Oriam in tennis specific networks, ensuring project is delivering against objectives set out in TSIT application.
- Working with Oriam staff, ensure the programme is well promoted.
- Coordinate and disseminate reports to key stakeholders, as required.
Active Wellbeing Officer

The Active Wellbeing Officer will deliver a programme of activity that improves student wellbeing at HWU.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify & provide opportunities for students to take part in physical activity and sport with focus on the least active groups
- Work closely with stakeholders to ensure work is well researched and offers appropriate referral opportunities into physical activity and sport
- Identify & provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the HWU campuses
- Identify volunteering opportunities for students
- Evaluate the current infrastructure of the campus and identify improvements to allow for engagement in physical activity
- Advise on policy to ensure the initiatives and activities are embedded into campus life
- Advise on appropriate policy change to ensure all students are aware of sport and physical active opportunities at HWU
- Identify academic partnerships to deliver research projects
Fitness Instructor/ Personal Trainer

The Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer will support the department manager in ensuring that the gym floor and classes are delivered with customer excellence across everything we do. They will also support in reaching Personal Training session targets.

FACILITIES & OPERATIONS
Our facilities and operations team play an essential role in the day to day running of all of our services. Roles in this department include Facility Assistants, Cleaning Assistants and Catering Assistants with supervisors and managers for each area/ team. Most of these roles are shift based working on a 3-week shift pattern.
Sport Centre Facilities Assistant

The Facility Assistant will support the Department Supervisors to ensure that the facilities are presented in a clean, safe and organised manner at all times.

- The Facility Assistant will do facility cleaning within Oriam

The Catering Assistant will deliver service excellence to squads and facility users, providing catering services for performance squad meals and customer refreshments.

Customer Assistant
Full-time
The Customer Assistant is the key customer facing member of staff on shift delivering an informed and positive welcome at all times.
Summary of Key duties and responsibilities:
- Dealing with all incoming calls in a prompt and professional manner including screening, forwarding and providing information
- Greeting, welcoming, directing and announcing all visitors
- Receive and sort daily deliveries, mail, lost and found property
- Handle member and customer bookings and queries, Liase with the wider Oriam Team on new updates
- Perform other general administration tasks such as filing, photocopying, email handling and inventory
ADMIN SERVICES
Our Admin Services team has four key areas Human Resources, Systems & Technology, Finance and Communications & Marketing with support for Bookings. This team works closely with all other departments, providing the resources, data and guidance to support all areas of the business work efficiently. Roles in this department include Assistants and Managers, all working in their own specialism within the department.

Bookings & Communications Assistant

This role will have dual responsibility between support for our Bookings team and Communications team.
Summary of Key duties and responsibilities:
- The Bookings and Communications Assistant will be the Social Media Liaison for Oriam
- The Bookings and Communications Assistant will help deliver Oriam’s Communications admin
- The Bookings and Communications Assistant will help manage the bookings@ emails and deal with appropriately
- The Bookings and Communications Assistant will assist with all Hire Agreements in Oriam and followup throughout the year
Business Systems
Support
Part-time, 12-months fixed term
The Business Systems Admin will help contribute to a wider technology strategy at Oriam, this will include assisting with all system and technology in the business and finding new and exciting ways of working for the department and wider Oriam team.
Summary of Key duties and responsibilities:
- The Role Holder (RH) will be responsible for managing SharePoint administration and retention policy in line with the University guidance
- The RH will be responsible for collating all tickets within Admin Services and assigning staff members
- The RH will be responsible for adding basic changes to Gladstone, including new buttons or membership types with the support of the System Manager
- The RH will be responsible for looking after other business systems admin including uniware and clinicko within the Admin Services Team with support from the Systems Manager
