Alice Hedemo has enjoyed an exceptional period of success in recent weeks, emerging as one of Heriot‑Watt University’s most accomplished handball scholars following a remarkable double‑title achievement across both student and senior competition. Her performances throughout the 2025–26 season have reflected not only technical consistency, but also a growing maturity in her leadership and influence on court.

Representing her university squad, Hedemo played a central role in steering the team to a first‑place league finish and a triumphant run through the Final4, where her composed decision‑making and competitive resilience helped lift the side to championship victory. Across the season she demonstrated strong tactical understanding, an ability to control the rhythm of crucial moments, and the temperament required to deliver under pressure — qualities that have become increasingly defining elements of her game.

Hedemo’s success did not stop at university level. In senior competition with Tryst77, she contributed to a flawless, unbeaten league campaign, securing the club’s second consecutive league title. Her impact was evident throughout the season, combining disciplined defence with intelligent ball distribution and a commanding presence that helped establish Tryst77 as one of Scotland’s most dominant forces. The back‑to‑back championship reflects not just team cohesion, but Hedemo’s growing reputation as a reliable and influential contributor at senior level.

Balancing dual commitments across university and club environments demands a high degree of professionalism — something Hedemo has consistently embodied. Coaches highlight her readiness to adapt, her capacity to absorb tactical instruction quickly, and her unwavering competitive drive. These traits have allowed her to thrive across two high‑performance settings, while continuing to develop the depth and sophistication of her overall game.

Her recent successes mark a significant step in her athletic journey. As she continues to build experience, Hedemo represents the standard of excellence championed within Heriot‑Watt’s performance sport programme: ambition, discipline, and continuous growth. Her achievements this season not only underline the progress she has already made, but also the potential she carries as she continues to rise within Scottish handball.

Heriot‑Watt University celebrates her remarkable double‑title accomplishment and looks forward to supporting her ongoing development as she prepares for future national and international opportunities.

We caught up with Alice to hear how her season is shaping up both on the court and in the classroom. Balancing elite sport with academic study is no small feat, but her determination and focus continue to drive her forward.

What are you most proud of this month, and why?

This month was really special I was really proud to win the title of champions with both my teams. Finishing first and winning the Final4 with my student team and winning the league for a second year in a row, unbeaten this season with my senior team Tryst77!

What’s one challenge you’ve overcome recently and how? (sporting/academic, dual career, balancing priorities, support systems)

It’s been quite challenging balancing both academics and sport this second semester with competitions and assignments at an all-time high. But I’m always learning new ways to stay organised and find time for both while allowing myself to rest when needed. It’s worked out well so far!

What’s one academic or sporting goal you’re working towards this year?

With my senior team, we’re looking to win every Scottish competition and stay unbeaten and finish it all off with a strong performance at the Super Cup in May. My personal goals align with the team’s ambitions, as I work on my own game, stay on top of my studies and future career in sports.

Alice's story is a great example of what it means to be a Heriot-Watt Sports Scholar—balancing ambition, resilience, and a commitment to both sport and study. We’re proud to support athletes like Alice as they chase their goals and inspire others along the way.

Stay tuned for next month’s feature as we continue to spotlight the incredible talent across our scholar community.
