Oriam at Heriot-Watt University has today announced a new long-term partnership with Tennis Scotland in the wake of the official opening of its new £4.5 million Indoor Tennis Centre earlier in the year.
The sport’s governing body will use the impressive six-court facility for performance purposes, coach education, and competitions. This will compliment all other planned activity and work around Oriam’s existing tennis programme and pay-as-you-play offering.
The commitment demonstrates Tennis Scotland’s confidence in Oriam’s facilities and its potential to be a major asset for the sport.
As the partnership evolves, Tennis Scotland will continue to contribute to the flourishing tennis community through a sustained court usage plan. And with over 30,000 hours available annually there is plenty of court time for the community to enjoy the facility.
Among the activity that features in the partnership, Oriam will host coaching sessions for the Scottish National Player Pathway and the National Player Programme, providing valuable court time for some of the nation’s best players of all ages (some of whom are pictured).
It will also be the venue for a range of coaching qualifications as well as a number of competitions delivered by Tennis Scotland and other partners including the LTA, such as events on the Scotland Tour.
Chris Sellar, Director of Delivery at Oriam, says the partnership will help grow tennis in Scotland.
This collaboration embodies our commitment to create a hub for tennis athletes of all levels within the region.
