What is Chiropody
Skin and nail problems can be relatively common. These problems often go untreated for too long and then they become painful, can limit mobility/activity and inevitably cause pain and distress. With some treatment and self- management these problems can often be reduced or eliminated ensuring you can pursue the activities and hobbies you enjoy, without the pain or discomfort from your feet. What Treatments Are Available?
Corn and Callus Removal
Corn and callus removal is a procedure commonly performed by chiropodists or podiatrists to alleviate discomfort and restore healthy skin on the feet. Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin that develop in response to repeated friction or pressure, often caused by ill-fitting footwear, abnormal foot mechanics, or excessive walking or standing. While corns typically have a hard, concentrated core and may be painful, calluses are broader and usually painless.
The removal process involves softening the hardened skin with special creams or soaking it in warm water to make it easier to remove. The chiropodist then carefully trims away the excess skin using sterile instruments, smoothing out rough patches and relieving pressure on underlying tissues. In some cases, padding or orthotic devices may be recommended to prevent recurrence.
