Here at Oriam we know how much injuries can impact your life. ACL Injury/surgery can be extremely challenging to recover from with getting back to playing the sport you love being particularly challenging.
That’s why we have put together an ACL rehabilitation package to support you along your journey to recover after your injury, whether it be with conservative management or after surgical repair. The package simplifies the rehabilitation process, guarantees you regular access to Oriam’s world class rehabilitation facilities and ensures you have regular access to support from an experienced rehabilitation physiotherapist. This will give you the peace of mind that one of our physiotherapist will be there to guide and support you.
Oriam Clinic’s rehab package includes several key components tailored to restore function, strength, and most importantly get you back to doing the things you love, whether it be competitive sport, recreational exercise or day to day activities. Every rehab journey following ACL injury/surgery is different and with the wealth of experience and knowledge in rehabilitation ACL injuries, you know you will be in capable hands.
What’s Included:
Weeks 1-2
1x 45 min  initial assessment in clinic
This appointment will allow you physiotherapist to check your knee over, take some measurements and ensure you are doing all the necessary early stage exercises
Weeks 2-5
weekly 1-1 in clinic physiotherapy sessions
These early sessions allow your physiotherapist to check wound healing, prescribe exercises to start restoring movement in the knee, gait re-education, advice and to allow early strength training for lower limb muscles
Weeks 5-8
Weekly Hydrotherapy sessions
Continue to reduce knee stiffness and discomfort by making full use of our hydrotherapy group rehab sessions with a warm pool temperature (36 degrees celsius). The water is a great way to take weight of the knee and allow you to build up movement patterns. There is an under-water treadmill to help with gait re-education.
Weeks 8-12
Fortnightly 1-1 Gym sessions
These 1:1 sessions with your physiotherapist allow you to build confidence again in the gym and start building back muscle with weight training and improving movement patterns. Throughout the gym stages there will be certain protocol testing to ensure you are on the right track to full recover before moving on to the next stage. At each appointment you will receive a copy of your programme to allow you to safely perform your programme in your own time.
Weeks 12-24
Weekly or fortnightly group gym based sessions (max 6 people in the group)
You will progress through the stages of rehab including strength development, restoring range of movement and adding more complexity to your movement patterns. During these sessions you will continue to build confidence and train with others at different stages of their ACL rehab journey. This is a great way to complete your individualised programme and there will always be a physio to hand to help.
Week 24
Biodex isokinetic test
Test all your hard work! At the stage we will conduct an isokinetic test using our Biodex System to get some data as to how your rehab plan is coming along and this will help is plan for the next stages ahead. Please follow the link for more info on isokinetic testing. The information gained form this test will help your physiotherapist manipulate your rehabilitation over the final stage.
Week 25-35
Weekly or fortnightly gym group rehab or on pitch rehab sessions
In this stage of your rehabilitation you will continue to attend your gym sessions in our rehabilitation suite. However, there can also be incorporated on-field rehabilitation sessions ( essential for those returning to sports such as football, hockey, rugby, netball, basketball etc) As you continue along your rehab journey your exercises will be tailored to your specific needs. These will be included in the rehab group or on pitch/court if needed.
Week 36
Full Return to Play testing protocol plus 2nd biodex test
A full return to play testing protocol will be carried out – this aims to put your knee through a full testing protocol to assess your readiness to return to your sport. Strength testing, agility testing, on-field fitness measures and psychological readiness assessment are all part of this protocol. This will test all your hard work and give you the confidence you need to be your best.
A second isokinetic biodex test is carried out at the stage to ensure you are on the right track and ready to resume your sport.
Additional Components
- Education: Learn about injury prevention, proper mechanics, and self-care techniques.
- Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques to address any joint or soft tissue restrictions.
- Regular Assessments: Monitor progress and adapt the program as needed.
ACL Rehabilitation Package Prices
There are 2 packages available. The structure of the packages is the same for weeks 1-12.
The first package includes weekly gym-based rehab sessions from week 12 to week 36 and the total cost for 9 months of care, supervision, rehabilitation and testing is £1099.
The second package includes fortnightly gym-based rehab sessions from week 12 to week 36 and the total cost for 9 months of care, supervision, rehabilitation and testing is £899.
*Please note that this package timeline of 9 months represents a fairly typical pathway for a simple ACL injury and surgical repair. The programme does not guarantee full return to sport but with full engagement it is very likely you will return to your sport with confidence. In some cases, additional sessions may be required to ensure you meet testing targets and strength measures. Some ACL surgeries can vary and have many ups and downs which may result in longer rehab times.
