Celebrating a Decade of Scotland's Sports Performance Centre
When Oriam opened in 2016, our vision was to create a world-class home for Scottish sport. Ten years on, we're proud to be a place where ambition, achievement and everyday progress come together.
From national squads preparing for international fixtures to Heriot-Watt students chasing personal bests and local residents rebuilding everyday movement, Oriam is a destination built for every journey, big or small.

We were featured on Netflix as part of Six Nations: Full Contact, as Scottish Rugby's performance training centre.
We launched Europe's first Handball Scholarship in 2025 in partnership with the Scottish Handball Association and Heriot-Watt University.Â
We have an average of 525 weekly participants in our activities classes
We welcome over 1 million visitors to Oriam each year, with people from across the globe accessing our world class facilities everyday.Â

2010
Mcleish Report
The McLeish Report is published. Identified gaps in the development of performance sport, particularly football in Scotland.
2012
Bids open for scotland's sports performance centre
Scottish Government opens for bids to host Scotland's Sports Performance Centre. The process was highly competitive with bids from across the country.
2013
Successful Bid!
After the bidding process concluded, Edinburgh Council and Heriot-Watt University were awarded the successful bid for Scotland's Sports Performance Centre.
2015
Work Begins OnSite for Oriam
After considerable planning, we broke ground for Oriam, Scotland's Sports Performance Centre in April 2015.
2016
Oriam opens its doors
We opened our doors to our first customers with great anticipation in August 2016.
The facilities were officially opened in November 2016 by the First Minister of the time, Nicola Sturgeon.
2017
Partner Training and awards
The Architects for Oriam, Reiach and Hall, win prestigious awards for Oriam project. Many of our Partner groups settle into their first season of training at Oriam.
2019
