What Is the Oriam Youth Development Programme?

The Oriam Youth Development Programme is comprehensive multi-sport gym based development programme for young aspiring athletes. Led by Oriam Sports Scientist, Vicky Ward, the programme is designed to help support and train young athletes in a world-class performance environment. The programme is designed to unlock nurture and develop the potential of 11-18 year old athletes across multiple sports disciplines. Through the programme, our team work with young athletes to empower them to optimise their physical performance and reduce the risk of injury. The programme offers a perfect introduction to gym based strength and conditioning for young athletes and helps to build performance in their sport or discipline.


What Are The Benefits of the Programme for Young Athletes?

The Oriam Youth Development Programme offers a wide range of benefits for young people that will help them grow as individuals and athletes. Our comprehensive training programme is designed to support and develop young athletes and their performance at their own pace. The benefits of the programme can include:

Increased Muscular Strength:

The programme introduces athletes to a performance gym environment building strength and conditioning for sport and health. 

Increased Power Production

Through a range of exercises and game based activity, young athletes learn how to build and harness power for increased performance. 

Increased Bone Mineral Density

Our training programme introduces strength training which helps develop bone mineral density whilst reducing injury risk.

Improved Coordination and Balance

With gym based exercises and games on offer, our programme helps young athletes fine-tune their performance, coordination and balance.

Our development programme helps to reduce the risk of injury through educating young athletes and improving training technique.

I really enjoy the weights and plyometrics because they get me strong and fast.

It has really helped with my rugby because I can now catch people if they make a break and can get passed people. It has also made me understand the gym exercises as well so I can do weights safely.

I would definitely recommend it to a friend because it is very fun and everyone is nice.

I have enjoyed the Oriam Youth Program and its benefits to my physical fitness and education in basic gym skills and targeted strength development. I personally enjoy the different warm ups each week like parkour and animal flow.

Coach Vicky is an absolute gem, very supportive and always makes sure that we are all feeling good and without injury, providing alternatives if needed so we can improve. Through the development program I have met a lot new people who play a wide variety of sports some completely different to mine. I have appreciate the opportunity to be part of this amazing program and would love to come back next term!
